Outright Games, the team of publishers behind video games based on Hotel Transylvania, PAW Patrol and Adventure Time, has revealed a first look at the upcoming Jumanji title.
Yes, a video game based on a film in which players are sucked into a video game which in itself is a reboot of the 1995 Robin Williams film in which its characters are drawn in to a board game – of which there has been a licensed board game produced and re-launched – all of which was actually based on a book written some years before it in 1981.
And breathe. You know the drill, this is the licensing industry, after all.
This latest incarnation of the Jumanji license, a fittingly digital take on the Jungle daring storyline, features the stars of 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, including Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Karen Gillan and Jack Black in a reprisal of their roles.
Jumanji: The Video Game tasks players to unite with up to three friends to tackle various environments, find the jewels of Jumanji and stay alive. It features both split-screen and online modes and allows players to take on the roles of Dr Smolder Bravestone, Ruby Roundhouse, Franklin ‘Mouse’ Finbar, and Professor Shelly Oberon.
Inspired by a series of picture books by Chris Van Allsburg, Jumanji was first made into a film in 1995, and starred Robin Williams. A soft reboot arrived in 2017 with Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, with a sequel title landing in cinemas before Christmas this year.
Jumanji: The Video Game will land on PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on November 15 this year.
