Licensing and literary agency, Metrostar, has been tasked with developing branded publishing ideas for Blake’s 7, after being appointed by B7 Media to represent the rejuvenated sci-fi series.
B7 Media acquired the format, script and character rights to Blake’s 7 in 2003. It has since produced three hour-long audio dramas and is planning a further trilogy along with a prequel audio series. However, it maintains that its focus has always been on creating a new television series.
Currently in development, the 6x60 series is set to broadcast on Sky One.
Metrostar’s Claire Potter said: “Blake’s 7 is an iconic science fiction brand with a large current and future fan base. Its return to television will attract enormous interest and we are delighted to be working with B7 Media to develop books and other publishing that will re-launch this classic brand for a new generation”.
Andrew Mark Sewell of B7 Media added: “Metrostar have a fantastic reputation for delivering strong brand extensions to successful television shows and we are delighted to be working with them on the future cross-media revival of Blake’s 7.”
Originally created by Terry Nation, Blake’s 7 is set in the future and follows the adventures of Roj Blake and his band of outlaws as they challenge the Terran Federation, rulers of Earth and many other planets. It ran for four series between 1978 and 1981, attracting audiences in excess of nine million.
