Cepia's collectable brand has been licensed for two films, Quest for Zhu and Power of Zhu, which will debut exclusively on DVD in 2011 and 2012 respectively.

LA-based Moonscoop will make the movies, with studio chief Mike Young commenting: "Developing characters kids can relate to through music, challenges and real-world, life lessons is a unique and gratifying opportunity."

Since ZhuZhu Pets launched in 2009 more than 62 million toy hamsters have been sold in over 65 countries, achieving a loyal fanbase of 'Zhu-natics'.

Craig Kornblau, president, Universal Studios Home Entertainment, said: "ZhuZhu Pets is a fantastic complement to Universal’s expanding portfolio of family franchises and we anticipate this film property to have significant worldwide potential.

"This agreement perfectly combines the exceptional global appeal of the ZhuZhu Pets brand with Universal’s premier marketing and distribution infrastructure."
