Coolabi has started production on its new stop-motion animated series, Scream Street (52 x 11’), with co-production partner, Factory TM.

The show, based on the Scream Street books by Tommy Donbavand and published by Walker Books, follows the story of werewolf teen Luke Watson who is transfered to Scream Street by the Government Housing of Unusual Lifeforms.

Mackinnon & Saunders, the puppet makers behind Fantastic Mr. Fox and Frankenweenie, is creating the cast ensemble.

“Scream Street is a truly individual book series that we know will translate into a fantastic and funny animated show for TV," said Zoë Bamsey, director of production and development at Coolabi.

"We’re excited to be working with such amazing partners to bring to life the books for existing fans and new audiences.”

CBBC is on board to air the show in the UK in 2016 while ZDF Enterprises has signed as global TV distributor for the series (excluding the UK, US and Australia).

ZDF Enterprises has also taken German licensing rights to the property.

“Scream Street is a stylish, spooky comedy, full of wonderful characters that will have instant appeal for the older end of the CBBC audience," added Cheryl Taylor, controller at CBBC.

"The style and pace promise to be like no other CBBC stop-frame animated show”,

Select footage will be available for the first time at MIPCOM this year.

Katharina Pietzsch, director ZDFE.junior of ZDF Enterprises added: “We are delighted to be partnering up with CBBC, Coolabi and Factory TM on this fantastic project and look very much forward to bringing the show to partners and markets worldwide.

"With its super cool look, great storylines and humour, it will appeal to kids and their families all over the globe.”

There are 13 books in the Scream Street series so far, and the books have already sold into territories including USA, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Portugal, Russia and Sweden.
