The iconic image and poems are coming to a range of Nintendo DSi and DS Lite accessories from Venom, a leading accessory supplier specialising in the video gaming market.
Licensed by Coolabi, the Venom range of products will include a proven range of DSi and DS Lite peripherals, a flip and play case (with stylus), a six-pack of game storage cases and Ronnie’s Purple Pack, an accessory pack including styluses, headphones, screen protectors, wrist straps and other essentials.
All the products have packaging featuring illustrations of Ronnie gaming, celebrating or impressing his mates – and all have specially written poems. The first three releases, at the end of August, will be the DSi/DSL Purple Pack, the DSi/DSL games cases and the DSi flip and play case.
Purple Ronnie is an iconic character with a strong recognition factor and appeal that extends across generations and sexes. Venom is therefore aiming to take the range to supermarkets and major stores as well as specialist retailers.
Keith Pashley, whose company, The Keith Pashley Project delivers long-term brand licensing and marketing solutions for a number of companies, including Venom, suggested that Venom and Purple Ronnie would be a good fit.
Sue Dawson, sales director of Venom, agreed: “Purple Ronnie’s positive, humorous image fits with the fun and enjoyment that computer gaming offers, and his recognition factor is high not only among gamers but also among non-gaming gift buyers. This is an ideal brand for products we hope to take to a very large market.”
Janet Woodward, head of licensing with Coolabi, said: “Venom understands perfectly what Purple Ronnie can offer and how to adapt his sense of fun and enthusiasm for the video game accessories market.
"This partnership is a perfect example of the sort of new, exciting categories that we are successfully taking this dynamic, popular brand into.”
