Remarkable Brands has detailed a new licensing partnership between the Huggy Buddha brand and plush manufacturer Gund.

The global, multi-year agreement covers all retail channels, including department stores, mid tier specialty stores, baby retailers, and more.

Huggy Buddha was created by Sandra de Vries, who wanted to give her first grandchild a soft Buddha plush as a good luck symbol for a happy life. Each Huggy Buddha comes with a hangtag that reads, 'I wish you a happy life'.

Gund will manufacture and distribute a full line of Huggy Buddha plush formats, including sound toys, backpack clips, and activity blankets, as well as stationery products and hard goods. Product is planned to hit shelves in time for Christmas 2015.

“Huggy Buddha is a delightful and heartwarming brand that will put a smile on the faces of kids of all ages, and I’m thrilled to work with Gund to further expand the property’s reach worldwide,” said Stacey Reiner, president of Remarkable Brands.

“It is particularly exciting to work with Gund, a name that’s long been synonymous with huggable plush and the perfect partner for Huggy Buddha.”

Gund president, Bruce Raiffe, added: “Sharing love and positivity through the simple act of a hug is what we’re all about as a company.

“We’re confident that our customers will love the Huggy Buddha product as much as we do.”
