Lazy Oaf has teamed with the iconic cartoon character Betty Boop for a 15-piece men and women’s fashion collection.
The collection will feature an array of signature Betty shades such as Betty Boop Red by Pantone plus black and pink.
The announcement of the partnership was made by Hearst-owned King Features, the exclusive worldwide licensing agent for Betty Boop proprietor, Fleischer Studios.
“Betty is an icon, some that I have grown up with, she is sexy, sassy, empowering and essentially street smart,” said Gemma Shiel, founder and head designer, Lazy Oaf.
“She bucks expectations and goes her own way which is what I encourage everyone to do. Working with Betty has been a dream. As a teen in the 90s there was a massive explosion of Betty in streetwear and I really wanted to add that element to our ranges.”
Looking to the original black and white Betty Boop cartoons, the Lazy Oaf design team sifted through the archive to find unique Betty artwork. Smock dresses, cropped sweatshirts and laid-back jersey pieces feature in the women’s collection along with Pin-UP jeans and denim jackets.
In recent years, King Features and Fleischer Studios have been raising Betty’s profile with trendy collaborations and promotional partnerships with fashion and beauty heavyweights such as Zac Posen, MAC Cosmetics, Moschino and A Bathing Ape.
