The National Literacy Trust and Mr Men Little Miss Magazine are launching a new competition in schools, children's centres, libraries, after school clubs and nurseries to encourage three to seven year olds to enjoy reading.

Participants could win a storytelling afternoon with a little help from a Mr Men or a Little Miss character at their school or early years setting.

Building on the success of the Cbeebies Magazine Big Reading Adventure in spring 2013, which reached over 2,500 children, the National Literacy Trust is again partnering with Immediate Media to launch the Mr Men Little Miss Reading Adventure.

Participants will be provided with a suite of resources to enable them to deliver a reading-themed week. Children will share stories and complete the activities featuring Mr Men Little Miss characters, from Mr Bump to Little Miss Sunshine.

Every child who reads all five stories and completes all the activities can be entered into a national prize draw to win a storytelling session, a one-year subscription to Mr Men Little Miss Magazine and book vouchers. Ten runners up with win a six-month subscription to the publication.

Susie Musgrove, the National Literacy Trust's network and competitions manager, said: "We're thrilled to be working with Immediate again to launch a new challenge involving the iconic Mr Men and Little Miss characters.

"Introducing reading for enjoyment to young children has a significant impact on their educational achievement, so embarking on a fun reading journey with the warmth and humour of the Mr Men and Little Miss personalities is sure to inspire a love of reading in children which will stay with them for life."

Stephanie Cooper, editor of Mr Men Little Miss Magazine, added: "It's a privilege to be partnering once again with the National Literacy Trust and working with early years professionals to provide exciting learning opportunities for young children.

"Mr Men Little Miss Magazine has already gone down a storm with our readers and so we look forward to seeing how children in early years settings engage with the Reading Adventure."
