The firm has issued the following statement:
“We are saddened by the announcement of the death of Oliver and our thoughts are with his family at this time. He, with his partner Peter Firmin, created something magical that formed a significant part of our childhoods and his achievements shape a meaningful and fitting legacy.”
Oliver Postgate died aged 83. He is best known for the children’s animations he made with Peter Firmin in the 1960s and 1970s.
Ivor the Engine was first, followed by The Adventures of Noggin the Nog, Bagpuss and The Clangers. Bagpuss, ‘the saggy old cloth cat’, became an overnight licensing phenomenon nearly twenty years later, after being voted the top children’s series of all time.
Bagpuss and Clangers toys became firm favourites with original fans of the characters and a completely new generation.
Coolabi recently acquired the company Licensing By Design, which holds the licensing and merchandising rights to Bagpuss, the Clangers and Ivor The Engine.
