Penguin Ventures has teamed with Start Licensing to develop new opportunities for Ladybird Books: The Vintage Collection, Flower Fairies and more.
From September 1st this year, Start Licensing will represent and develop licensing programmes for popular Penguin properties including Spot and Hairy Maclary and Friends.
Start Licensing has previously worked closely with Penguin Random House Children’s alongside the publishing team on The Beano as well as The Snowman an d The Snowdog broadcast partners, Channel 4.
Start’s Ian Downes and Karen Addison will now represent select Penguin properties while the firm’s own licensing executive, Jennifer Greenway takes maternity leave.
Beatrix Potter, The Snowman and The Snowdog as well as Random House Enterprises will not be included in the new partnership.
“Ian and Karen are not only highly regarded within the licensing community but are also long term friends, colleagues and collaborators with the Penguin Ventures team and the wider Penguin Random House Children’s business,” said Susan Bolsover, head of licensing and consumer products at Penguin Ventures.
“It was in fact the idea of licensing executive Jennifer Greenway, whose maternity leave they will be covering, to work with Start Licensing given not only their industry knowledge and contacts, but also as Karen had worked on Penguin’s brands back when they were represented by Chorion.
“It seemed like a great fit and a great way to help us take our brands to the next phase of their development.”
