Sanrio has confirmed a number of deals which will see Mr Men and Little Miss move into the digital arena.

The company has launched a range of Mr Men ebooks based on the classic stories for Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD, Amazon's new colour tablets, as well as free Kindle reading apps for iPad and Android-based devices.

The Kindle ebooks will be available in English, French, Spanish and German from Kindle Stores.

This is the first time that the complete series has been available in digital form worldwide.

In addition, Amazon has created dedicated Mr Men stores on Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.fr to cross promote the new consumer products programme being launched for Mr Men and Little Miss across Europe.

In a second phase, Sanrio will partner with Egmont in the UK to extend its Mr Men and Little Miss content across all digital platforms. A range of ebooks, iBooks and apps will be available from early 2014.

"Growing our presence in the digital arena is a key element of Sanrio's growth strategy for Mr Men and Little Miss," said Roberto Lanzi, president of Sanrio Global Consumer Products. "That we can combine the launch into ebooks with a push on our broader consumer products programme makes this even more exciting."

David Riley, MD of Egmont Publishing Group, added: "We are extremely excited to be working with Sanrio to move the Mr Men publishing into the digital arena. It is only right that these much loved stories are adapted to be enjoyed digitally, allowing existing fans and new to experience the wonderful world of the Mr Men."

Currently one Mr Men and Little Miss book is sold every 2.5 seconds worldwide, with lifetime sales totalling 200 million books.
