The Smiley Company has teamed up with the Imperial Health Charity to support hospital patients facing financial crisis this Christmas.

Smiley – the originators of 3D emoticons, has created three limited edition and exclusive icons for the charity’s Christmas fundraising campaign, the wishing Tree Appeal.

The exclusive designs will be displayed on special baubles to be hung from the charity’s Christmas Wishing tree at Charing Cross, hammersmith, Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea, St Mary’s and the Western Eye hospitals over the festive period.

In exchange for a £5 contribution to the appeal, donors can write a personal Christmas wish to be printed on one of the Smiley baubles. The three new designs include a Smiley winky, a laughing Santa Claus and a Christmas penguin.

Donations to the appeal will go towards the charity’s hardship fund, which provides emergency grants for patients an their families at times of extreme financial difficulty.

The money may be used to cover travel, accommodation, food and clothing costs, so that families can stay together while a loved one is seriously ill in hospital.

Matt Winton, marketing director at The Smiley Company, said: “Our mission is that we help to make the world a happier place, which is the starting point for all of our creative projects globally.

“We are proud to work with Imperial Health Charity for this incredibly worthwhile cause at such an important time of year. We are committed to helping spread happiness to those in need of a smile at this time of year.”

Imperial Health Charity supports the five London hospitals of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust through grants, arts, volunteering and fundraising.

Last year, the charity awarded more than £8million to fund major redevelopments, clinical research and medical equipment, as well as managing a museum-accredited hospital art collection service and a volunteering service across the Trust.
