Despite only going on air at the beginning of the year, Entertainment Rights' Rupert Bear: Follow the Magic has become one of the highest ranked pre-school shows on Germany's Super RTL channel.
The successful premiere on the station - it is averaging a 41.4 per cent share in its regular slot - will now act as a springboard to build the brand in the territory. There are also plans in development to launch publishing, DVD, toy and apparel programmes in 2009.
Rupert Bear will also brand Super RTL's Toggo Live nationwide tour throughout 2008 and will become a key attraction on www.toggolino.de from April onwards.
"Rupert Bear has universal appeal," said Jane Smith, chief commercial and creative director at Entertainment Rights. "The brand allows young children to discover the wonders of the natural world around them, explaining through engaging narratives and appealing character gentle learning about natural history.
"The series is a perfect fit for Super RTL's kids offer and initial ratings indicate the show will continue to pull in big audiences throughout 2008. The longer term strategy is to deliver a successful licensing and merchandising programme in the German market to support the TV series, mirroring our successful UK roll out in 2007."
Follow the Magic first broadcast on Five's Milkshake in November 2006 and has since become an international success with sales in 107 countries.
