Coolabi's plans for Purple Ronnie are coming together - revealing a bold line-up of products from new and existing licensees.
Hallmark has already enjoyed sales of more than eight million Purple Ronnie greetings cards per year. From this month, it is rolling out cards to 720 Clinton stores, adding to the brand's strong presence elsewhere. Colourful 'bright look' and more traditional 'white look' cards will be created for Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and Father's Day, as well as Easter, birhdays and other special events.
Meanwhile, H&A - another established licensee - will have 12 new Purple Ronnie items in Clinton stores in time for Valentine's Day, including synthetic rose petals, a 'Sex Time' and furry Love Cuffs. Other major retailers are lined up for fourth quarter ranges.
Greencore Cakes and Desserts picked up the licence last October and is already selling over 7,000 cakes a week. It has made Purple Ronnie the country's third most popular character licence in the celebration cake market.
Book licensee Pan PacMillan has sold over 2.1 million copies of Purple Ronnie books to date. It will continue to focus its efforts on celebration days in 2008, as well as launching two new titles in June: Lovely Grandma and Smashing Grandad.
New licensees Paul Lamond Games and Portico Designs will also be launching products from the first quarter of this year.
In turn, Coolabi will be launching a new Purple Ronnie website during 2008, while it will also be developing its alliance with the Prostate Cancer Charity.
"Later in the year we're going to raise the brand's profile even further with new licences, a coordinated product offering across all categories and increased retail presence," said Janet Woodward, head of licensing at Coolabi. "Our ultimate aim is to establish the brand as an international property and that will be a major focus as we progress with Purple Ronnie."
