UFC taps into Chinese market with live event debut in Shanghai

Mixed martial arts organisation, UFC is looking to tap into the Chinese market as it prepares to launch its debut live event in Shanghai.

The inaugural live event will take place at the Mercedez Benz Arena on November 25th this year.

The move is in response to the growing demand for the sport – and its subsequent licensing programme - by the Chinese audience.

“We are always asked when UFC will be making its debut in China,” UFC senior vice president on international and content, Joe Farr said. “We are honoured to confirm that Shanghai will be the home of the very first live UFC event in mainland China and to say that we are excited is an understatement.

“The entire organisation is looking forward to making history this year.”

Michael Ma, WME IMG China CEO, added: “WME IMG China is delighted to present UFC – the world’s most recognised MMA brand – to Chinese audiences this November. MMA is developing rapidly in China and amassing a large fan base, this is an exciting first step to making the sport a mainstay here.”

In the months leading up to the event, top UFC athletes will be on hand to meet and interact with fans in Shanghai and other cities. Fans can also expect a full schedule during fight week with appearances from guest fighters, community events and VIP experiences.
