Uki – Volume One features a total of ten episodes from the pre-school series, which features a smiling yellow character.
First developed by Universal Music Belgium, the property comprises 52 x five-minute episodes and each one sees Uki on adventures using sounds, laughter and smiles, rather than words.
Winner of the ‘Pitch it’ award at the 2008 KidScreen Summit, Uki has a modular structure that will quickly become familiar to children and their parents and is modelled on how toddlers typically spend their days.
Uki is currently showing on children’s channels Ketnet and Club RTL in Belgium and has also been sold to Australia, Portugal, Finland, Norway, Poland, Israel, South Africa, Taiwan, the Middle East, South-east Asia.
In the UK, the show has been airing since September on CBeebies as part of the ‘Show Me Show Me’ programme.
The new DVD adds to an existing licensing programme, with publisher Egmont set to launch a series of books in the UK – including Ten Minute Tales, Pocket Library books, annuals, colouring/activity books and story books.
Neil Jennings, director of business development at Universal Music UK, commented: “Uki is proving to be a real hit and is quickly building up an avid audience in the UK so this DVD is sure to have a big impact at retail.
"The popularity of the property is being reflected in significant levels of interest from the licensing community and we are looking forward to making more announcements during 2011.”
