Universal Pictures is rebooting its classic monster movies franchise.

The Fast and The Furious writer Chris Morgan and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 writer Alex Kurtzman will take charge of an multi-film narrative set to 'expand and unify' a network of classic monsters and stories.

Universal's Classic Monsters series includes horror classics like Frankenstein (1931), Dracula (1931), The Mummy (1932), The Invisible Man (1933), Bride of Frankenstein (1935) The Wolf Man (1941) and Creature From The Black Lagoon (1954).

Deadline reports that 'this will be the first time that the studio has formalised an approach to these classic characters in a cohesive, connected way rather than as a series of stand-alone projects by disparate filmmaking teams.'

The first film in this rebooted series will be The Mummy, set to land in cinemas on April 22nd, 2016.
