LIMA to provide key UK market data

LIMA UK is looking to fill the hole when it comes to reliable data about the size of the UK licensing market – and is calling on the industry to spare just a few moments to help.

In the US, research data on the market is published on an annual basis, usually to coincide with Licensing Expo in June. For the first time this year, this is being opened up to the UK and a number of other markets. The data is being collected by Klaus Wertenbroch, PH.D. at INSEAD in France and Singapore. He has worked with LIMA for several years on the annual US survey through the Wharton School of Business in Pennsylvania.

LIMA is now urging both members and non members to head online and share their data. This will be totally confidential, with only Wertenbroch having sight of it.

"We regularly get asked for robust data on the size of the UK licensing market, but we have never been able to give it as it’s never been researched before," Kelvyn Gardner, LIMA UK MD, told "We’ve had chances to be included in articles for the Government and media such as The Financial Times, which we have had to turn down because we couldn’t supply data, meaning we’re losing out on promoting the industry to a wider audience.

"Without individual data, there is no way of measuring the business. It is all totally confidential and all figures will be combined to publish collective, industry-wide results only."

To take part in the survey, simply head to Deadline is Friday May 3rd. Licensors and licensing agents are the companies whose data we are requesting.

Any queries should be directed to Gardner by calling 01908 802863 or emailing him on

A free copy of the data will be available for all firms which complete the survey.
