Renowned sugar craft artist and inspiration for the namesake lifestyle brand Lindy Smith is celebrating as her latest cookery book is named Best Pastry Sweets Book in the UK.
Her latest title – Creative Colour for Cake Decorating – was bestowed the accolade by the Gourmand world Cookbooks Awards, dubbed by those in the industry ‘the Oscars of the food industry’.
The award is the latest in a list for the book, that includes the 2012 Insight Magazine Award for Business Woman of the Year, gold medals for cake decorating and a number of Best in Class awards from Salon Culinaire.
The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards were founded in 1995 by Edouard Cointreau – yes, of the liquer and cognacs family – and Lindy Smith’s Creative Colour for Cake Decorating was one of a few winners form ‘thousands of entries’.
Her book will now compete against winners in the same category in other countries for the title, The Best in the World in Beijing.
Smith said: "This is fabulous news. I am absolutely thrilled, especially as this book has to be my favourite of all the cake decorating books I have written so far."
Janet Woodward, joint managing director of JELC, the independent licensing company behind Smith’s portfolio of branded products, added: "This is a well deserved award. We wish Lindy every success in Beijing, although as far as we are concerned, she is already the best in the world."
