Disney's remake will blend live action with CGI.

Live-action Dumbo remake takes flight

Disney is developing a live action remake of its 1941 classic, Dumbo.

The Hollywood Reporter stated that Transformers: Age of Extinction writer Ehren Kruger is writing the script.

Kruger has also written the two previous Transformers movies as well as Scream 3, The Ring and The Skeleton Key.

The remake will be a mix of live action and CGI and will also feature ‘a unique family story that parallels Dumbo’s story.’

The news follows a number of moves by Disney to revist and re-imagine its past classics.

Maleficent, a re-imagining of Sleeping Beauty, has grossed over $630 million worldwide since May while Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland earned over $1 billion.

Alongside Dumbo, other Disney classics returning to the big screen in new forms over the next few years include live action remakes of Cinderella, The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast.
