Emma Lamport, who is making her debut at BLE this year, is an established commercial graphic designer. Her work opens our eyes to the spaces and places we occupy by capturing the obvious and overlooked in both natural habitats and man-made environments.

Lamport trained as a teacher but her natural interest in design and graphics led her away from the classroom into the media. Here she discovered the design skills to turn ideas from her head into print and, after a stint in London, she longed to be back on the Welsh coast where she now lives, belongs and is inspired.

Lamport’s designs are unique, stylish and contemporary, but remarkably familiar and homely, bringing what we already know into the limelight. She is addicted to pattern and has a talent to 'spot the art' that already exists. Her design ideas are based on spotting the weird and wonderful textures, shapes and patterns that exist in the everyday world, transforming them firstly into image, then pattern and product.

Her signature is turning unusual subjects into versatile vector graphic designs that can be applied to any surface or interior. Digital technology is an essential part of her process and brand. Her quirky collections such as ‘Roadside Verge’, ‘Sandy Toes’, ‘Up My Street’, ‘Fish'n'Ships’, ‘Out the Back’ and ‘Wilderness’ give us an intriguing clue as to her subject matter which ranges from gas taps to cracked paints, starfish mouth parts to weeds and surfboards, washing lines to manhole covers, lollipop sticks to fossils and geckos!

Lamport welcomes you to join her in her small and cosy stand J32 to view her work, sift through her portfolio and chat over take-out coffee.
