Jim Henson launches Dinosaur Train

New CGI pre-school series to be showcased at next month's MIPTV.

The Jim Henson Company will be showing off its new CGI animated series Dinosaur Train at MIPTV.

Due to debut in the US on PBS Kids in the autumn, the series already has a global toy licensee in place in the form of RC2 Corporation. The company is planning a range of pre-school products, which will debut in the last half of 2010.

Dinosaur Train has recently been acquired for broadcast in Canada on TV Ontario and British Columbia's Knowledge. The series is currently in production for 40 half hour episodes.

The Jim Henson Company will oversee all ancillary exploitation of the property, including international television and video sales, plus worldwide licensing and merchandising. PBS will handle DVD distribution to consumer and education markets in North America.

Dinosaur Train is co-produced with Singapore animation company Big Communications.

"Based on input from paleontologists, science educators and early childhood education experts, Dinosaur Train has developed an ambitious and creative curriculum that harnesses children's enthusiasm for and curiosity about dinosaurs," said Lisa Henson, co-CEO of the Jim Henson Company.

Sam Ewing, head of international sales, new programming at Jim Henson, added: "Programming for pre-schoolers has to be fun, and Dinosaur Train hits the mark perfectly, bringing together two of their favourite themes - dinosaurs and trains."
