London Book Fair opens its doors

Children's area to have extended space on showfloor; licensing becoming more important.

Celebrating 40 years this year, the 2011 London Book Fair has opened its doors today at Earls Court.

This year's show sees the introduction of a Children's Innovation Zone. Part of the popular Children's Zone, it includes a new theatre on the showfloor, dedicated to promoting new ideas specific to children's publishing.

The Innovation Zone has been set up to reflect the huge developments in children's publishing. It will feature a collection of publishers and authors discussing the latest trends in the sector.

Contributors will include Val Braithwaite, art director at Bloomsbury at lunchtime today (Monday 11th), while Macmillan will be reviewing some promotions around The Gruffalo on Red Nose Day on Wednesday 13th at 11am.

"Visitors always rate the children's zone as one of the most important parts of the Fair," said London Book Fair's Emma Lowe. "It's certainly always one of the busiest areas and we're looking to attract even more people with the illustrators' corner, which was a real success last year, and the new feature of the Innovation Zone.

"We want everyone to come away inspired by both new ideas and established talent."

The London Book Fair runs from today (Monday 11th) to Wednesday 13th at Earls Court.
