The 24th Mipcom recorded its highest attendance figure of all time, driven by an increase of visitors from the likes of the Middle East, Turkey, Russia, India, China and the Ukraine.
At the close of the market (October 17th), Mipcom 2008 had totalled 13,588 participants, an increase of 1.6 per cent over 2007. A total of 4,519 companies from 103 countries registered, of which 1,779 were exhibitors.
The number of international buyers grew by 7.2 per cent, from 4,242 in 2007 to 4,573 this year.
The number of attendees from emerging markets showed strong growth, too. Russian attendance was up 39.6 per cent (377 participants); the Ukraine up 30.5 per cent (111); the Middle East up 34.7 per cent (419); China rise 19.5 per cent (141); and Africa grew by 18.5 per cent (135).
There was also a stronger presence from Spain, up 19.6 per cent with 651 participants, and Germany, up ten per cent to 825.
In addition, Mipcom Junior saw a rise of 19 per cent in companies attending, a total of 613 from 55 countries. Over two days, 1,143 programmes (up 23 per cent) were presented, more than three-quarters of which were new material.
Huntik: Secrets and Seekers (Rainbow S.p.a, Italy) and Funny Face (Renegade Animation, US) picked up Most Advanced Property and Most Promising Property in the Licensing Challenge.
