Nelvana lines up new shows for Mipcom

Firm to unveil fresh roster next week in Cannes.

Canada's Nelvana Enterprises is heading to Mipcom in Cannes next week with a host of new programming.

This will include Scaredy Squirrel (pictured), which is based on an award winning book series by Canadian author Melanie Watt published by Kids Can Press. Nelvana Studios will be producing 26 half hour episodes, as well as companion shorts, of the new series. It will be aimed at six to 11 year-olds.

Also on show will be a one-hour movie produced by Studio B Productions, in association with YTV, called Being Ian: An Ian-convenient Truth. Due this autumn, Nelvana Enterprises will be distributing the movie.

Meanwhile, new series in development from the firm include Skull Kids, a 3D series developed by Korean studio Enemes, about tiny, heroic creatures striving to master their shapes, sizes and illogical superpowers; Sidekick, about a school for sidekicks of superheroes'; and The Academy, a live-action teen series.

"We have some terrific new shows at Mipcom this year with fresh, distinctive characters and compelling storylines that will appeal to all of our international broadcast partners," said Lynn Chadwick, VP of worldwide sales and distribution at Nelvana Enterprises. "As can be expected from Nelvana, they are entertaining, engaging programs that will really deliver."
