California-based animation studio Renegade will be taking its latest production to Mipcom in Cannes this October.

Animated interstitial series Funny Face (25x1-minute), aimed at tweens and teens, will be showcased for the first time to international broadcasters at the event.

The series - which features such characters as Loud Mouth Lime, Jolly Olly Orange and Goofy Grape - combines slapstick action, smart dialogue and the signature Renegade animation style. Recent successes for the company include The Mr Men Show and Hi Hi Puffy Amiyumi.

The characters in Funny Face are based on those first introduced on drink packets made by Pillsbury in the 1960s. Having appeared in TV commercials, the characters were soon translated into a line of merchandise including plastic mugs, backpacks and finger puppets.

International sales and licensing initiatives for Funny Face will be handled by children's entertainment development company Fitzroy Media and its CEO Hamp Hampton.

"It's a delightful opportunity to be funny in a way that is currently missing from the cartoon landscape," said Renegade's executive producer Ashley Postlewaite.

Hampton added: "What excites me about this property is its marriage of slapstick humour with the language of today's kids culture. As a way to engage tween and teen audiences, this series will appeal to broadcasters worldwide."
