Marvel’s Avengers villain lands in Fortnite

Epic Games’ battle royale title Fortnite, is, without a doubt, the biggest game in the world right now, and its about to get even bigger thanks to a surprise crossover with Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War.

Starting from May 8th, the all-powerful Infinity Gauntlet (that fans will recognise from the film) will drop into the Fortnite map, allowing the player that finds it to transform into the lilac titan- and smash their opponents.

The Infinity War directors, Joe and Anthony Russo dropped the announcement on Twitter, which came as a shock to even top Fortnite player Ninja, who tweeted "what even… this is SIIIICK (sic)."

“Over the past few months, while we were editing Infinity War, we’d take breaks to hop on and get in a few games,” Joe Russo told Entertainment Weekly. “And then we started thinking, how cool would it be to have some kind of Avengers–Fortnite mashup? So we stalked Donald.”

“Out of the blue, I get this call from Joe. And after a bit of geeking out over each other’s work, we start brainstorming these crazy ideas,” added Donald Mustard, worldwide creative director at Epic Games. “It was really important that whatever we did, it had to be super authentic to both Fortnite and the Avengers: Infinity War, and something that fans of both would be excited about. About an hour later, we had the bones of this awesome idea for a limited time gameplay mode, and almost immediately our team got started.”

This pairing of titan brands is unprecedented- and an undeniably genius move. Given the overwhelmingly positive reactions from fans of both products, don’t expect this to be the last movie franchise to go for a piece of the Fortnite pie.

The Infinity Gauntlet mode will be available for free across all Battle Royale-friendly platforms (i.e. PS4, Xbox, PC, Mac, and iOS).
