Mattel has unveiled a new line of 15 diverse Ken dolls featuring new body types, skin tones and hairstyles.
The new launch joins the toy maker’s popular Barbie Fashionistas range and includes slim, broad and original body types, a Ken with a man bun and a figure with corn rows hairstyle.
2016 saw Mattel introduce three new Barbie body types – tall, curvy and petite – along with new skin tones, eye colours, hairstyles and accessories. Modernising the Ken doll range is the company’s latest move in evolving the Barbie brand to reflect modern times.
“By continuing to expand our product line, we are redefining what a Barbie or Ken doll looks like to this generation,” said Lisa McKnight, senior vice president and general manager, Barbie.
“Evolving Ken was a natural evolution for the brand and allows girls to further personalise the role they want him to play in Barbie’s world.”
The line of 15 new Ken will be joined by a further 24 diverse Barbie dolls. Together they will all join the more than 100 diverse looks launched in the Barbie Fashionistas line in the last three years.
Meanwhile, the Barbie Fashionistas segment continues to exceed expectations as sales of the line see high double-digit growth globally. Diversity continues to roll out across brand content, marketing and product, including the Fantasy, Entertainment and Careers segments.
