Children's magazines have continued to shine in the latest round of ABCs, with Egmont, Redan, Immediate Media and Skyjack all enjoying growth with key titles for the period July to December 2011.
Skyjack Publishing's Moshi Monsters Magazine smashed its first recorded circulation figures and continues to be the best selling children's title in the UK. The publication saw a 43 per cent growth to 162,838, with December's Christmas edition being the best selling issue to date, with 189,618 magazines sold in the UK.
"We're absolutely thrilled with the incredible performance and continued growth of Moshi Monsters Magazine," said Matt Yeo, MD at Skyjack. "The title continues to go from strength to strength, and our focus is always on offering our readers the most fun packed, entertaining, high quality product each and every issue, whilst building upon our successful partnership with Mind Candy."
Egmont Magazines saw its girls' portfolio, Disney titles and the recently launched We Love Pop perform well.
Barbie, Go Girl, Disney Princess and Tinkerbell all enjoyed period on period growth, with Go Girl being the stand out performer with an increase of 11 per cent. I Love Pop, meanwhile, recorded an average distribution of 58,321 for the first six months.
The firm's Disney licensed portfolio recorded YOY growth of 17.5 per cent and POP growth of 2.5 per cent, while Egmont's continued investment in Toxic saw it record a 2.5 per cent POP and 2.2 per cent YOY growth.
"Egmont has demonstrated the strength of both our licensed products and own brand titles, with strong period on period growth across the portfolio," said Debbie Cook, director of magazines at Egmont Publishing Group.
Immediate Media's pre-school portfolio was up 24.1 per cent YOY. This included strong growth across the Cbeebies portfolio, with Cbeebies Art up 23.4 per cent to 63,679, and Cbeebies Weekly up 2.2 per cent to 55,516. Octonauts magazine also made a solid debut, with a figure of 61,750.
Top Gear, meanwhile, reported a figure of 180,208, while Lonely Planet was stable YOY with 60,125.
Immediate Media was formed on November 1st 2011 following the merger of BBC Magazines, Origin Publishing and Magicalia.
Finally, Redan Publishing's Fun to Learn range continues to perform well. Top was FTL Peppa Pig, with an average sale of 76,834 copies, an increase of 18 per cent YOY, followed by FTL Friends with 74,284 copies (up 7.1 per cent YOY).
Sparkle World recorded an average sale of 66,752 copies.
"We are delighted to have maintained our number one and number two position in the pre-school ABC chart and to be number one in primary girls," said Julie Jones, Redan's publishing director. "Our magazines offer fantastic exposure for licensed characters, providing children with a fun, interactive and rewarding experience."
