With the adventure comic celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2011, DC Thomson has launched a number of digital initiatives for Commando.

A new website has been created by the firm's digital team in partnership with Storm ID. Users can explore the stories, including new issues, using the free interactive viewer, plus get information on the military hardware featured throughout.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to purchase a digital subscription directly through the website. Cover posters are also available to buy through the site.

In addition, iPad and iPhone apps are now free to download through the iTunes store, with a digital subscription priced at £4.99.

The website, digital subs and apps are all backed by a digital marketing campaign.

"Being the first DC Thomson title to offer a downloadable digital comic via a web-based subscription service is quite a responsibility, but one we are delighted to take on," said Commando editor, Calum Laird. "Commando is a unique product in the UK marketplace."
