DC Thomson teams with Sir Peter Blake for 75th anniversary The Beano print

‘The Godfather of British Pop Art,’ Sir Peter Blake has teamed with DC Thomson’s The Beano to create a limited edition print celebrating the comic’s 75th anniversary.

The Beano special edition launched on the CCA Galleries’ stand at the London Original Print Fair that took place last week.

CCA Galleries explains it was initially approached by DC Thomson’s Consumer Products team after Blake’s work was referenced by Wayne Hemingway in the creation of a new style guide for The Beano’s 75th anniversary in 2013.

Blake’s artwork focuses on The Bash Street Kids comic strip, superimposing characters from The Beano in front of a vintage postcode-style image of Dundee High School.

Tim Collins, head of brands at DC Thomson, said: “After more than a year in the making, we are truly excited to finally be able to unveil this exclusive collaboration.

“It’s a rare privilege to have the opportunity to work with a British icon like Sir Peter Blake to celebrate the great heritage of our own beloved British icon, The Beano.
