Egmont Press beat off four other publishing houses in a competitive pitch and auction process to acquire the brand and plans to launch the series with thirteen picture book titles in spring 2011.
Each book will be in the form of a 32-page square paperback with flaps, and will sit on a specially designed spinner in stores. New books, in different formats, will be published later in 2011.
Already a successful TV series on CBBC, each book will tell a different story, using different animal characters including pink crickets, wobbly hippos, burping sharks and footballing tortoises.
Lara Hancock, senior publisher of picture and gift books at Egmont Press, secured world rights, for all books from Giles’ agent, Rosemary Canter at United Agents.
“We are completely over the moon to have acquired such a wonderful new brand from a household name and are very excited to be publishing World of Happy next year,” commented Hancock.
“Giles’ big idea to establish World of Happy as the global brand for joy is genius. I hope the world becomes a happier place for children with the launch of these books.”
Andreae (pictured) said “I am delighted that Egmont Press is publishing World of Happy. It has been proven that positive affirmations of love and happiness from an early age can help enormously in producing confident and affectionate children and this is something I am set on encouraging.
"Just as Baby Mozart encourages children’s interest in music, World of Happy will make them joyful. If we stop to consider what a society of joyful, positive children could achieve, it is quite breathtaking. It could literally change our world.”
