Fox tops UK box office with Mr. Peabody & Sherman

20th Century Fox's Mr. Peabody & Sherman has debuted at the top of the UK box office.

The DreamWorks Animation film made £3.9m in its first weekend on release, including £1.4m from previews held last weekend, reports Screen.

This debut equals the £3.9m opening made by the last release from DreamWorks Animation release, Turbo.

Mr. Peabody & Sherman faces competiton for the family vote this coming weekend with the arrival of Warner Bros' The LEGO Movie.

The LEGO Movie has already enjoyed a strong debut in the US and although it doesn't count in this week's chart, has already made £1.97m in the UK thanks to previews held last weekend.

Elsewhere, in second position was StudioCanal's RoboCop reboot.

RoboCop made £2.41m, with 14.45 per cent coming from IMAX screenings and this goes down as StudioCanal's second biggest opening weekend, behind Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy's £2.8m debut.
