Sony's One Direction: This is Us, a documentary following the boyband as they embark on a worldwide tour, has topped the box office in both the UK and the US.

The film has been directed by Supersize Me's Morgan Spurlock and This is Us made it to the No.1 spot in the UK with an opening weekend total of £3.5m, reports Screen.

3D screenings of the film proved more popular, taking a 78 per cent share, and the film looks on course to rival the final £9.8m total of the biggest concert documentary in the UK to date, Michael Jackson's This is It.

Elsewhere, Digital Spy states that the film proved just as much of a hit in the US, making $17m to top the box office and knock Lee Daniels' The Butler into second place after two weeks at number one.
