It may be over 70 years old, but The Beano is going from strength to strength, with some high profile activity planned to take place throughout the summer including a Mad Science theme in May.
BeanoMax, big brother of The Beano, has celebrities joining Dennis the Menace on the cover each month, with the contents of the magazine aiming to reflect the typical ten to 13 year-old. It covers sport, gaming, films, gadgets and TV, plus also features longer, more in-depth comic storylines.
The free covermount on the June issue will be a mobile phone accessories pack, followed by a Total Tennis Smash Pack for the Wimbledon issue, featuring an Andy Murray poster, interview and appearance in a cartoon strip.
Meanwhile, the July issue will witness the comic's take on Harry Potter, with a special 'Hairy Trotter' publication.
There are over 50 licensees on board with DC Thomson's licensing programme. Recent new deals - secured by Start Licensing - include Wizard for Beano-branded Shrinkles, Smiffy's (Desperate Dan dress-up), Wild and Wolf gift products, More For Your Store (money boxes), J Fox Sox (Bananaman boxer shorts) and Secret Ingredient (adult retro clothing).
In addition, Comic Art's screenprints and etchings featuring nostalgic comic art will be appearing at the Affordable Art Show in Bristol in May.
