Egmont Press has sealed a publishing partnership with fashion designer Orla Kiely to create a range of books for children and babies.
This marks the first time a publishing house has brought the designs of a fashion brand to children's books. The deal, struck by Egmont's picture book and gift list publisher Lara Hancock, for world rights will see a range of books hit shelves in 2011.
"I am thrilled to be working with one of the most talented and exciting designers in the UK," commented Hancock. "Orla Kiely's work is recognised around the world and this is a fantastic opportunity to translate her designs into gorgeous books for young children and their mothers."
Emma Cairns-Smith, head of licensing at Egmont UK, added: "As the leading licensing publisher in the UK, we're always looking to break new ground in our licensing acquisitions, and I hope this new partnership with Orla Kiely shows that we're open to working with a wide range of talented creators, not just from the world of film and TV."
