After suffering at the hands of the US audiences (and critics), Disney’s The Lone Ranger could only manage fifth place in the UK box office chart, reports Screen.
The film, which has been estimated to lose Disney $150m, made £1.3m, meaning it places behind chart-topper Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa (£2.18) as well as Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (£2.14), Grown Ups 2 (£2.07) and The Conjuring (£1.6m). This comes despite a marginally warmer reaction from the UK critics.
Elsewhere, The Smurfs 2 took another £1.1m while Fox's The Wolverine added £933k.
Disney's Monsters University added £1.2m to bring its total to £24m. In the Pixar stakes, the prequel has now taken more money than Cars, Cars 2, Brave, Toy Story and WALL-E in the UK.
This weekend also saw Despicable Me 2 become the UK’s highest grosser of 2013, moving past Les Misérables £40.5m total. Universal’s sequel added £917k bringing its total to £40.81m.
