When we launched Licensing.biz in September 2008, we were very clear about letting the licensing industry know that it was 'their' site, supporting the business all year round.
Prior to our arrival into the sector, the industry's interaction with trade media had been pretty limited to quarterly titles which just came out around trade shows and a US-based publication which mainly focused on the domestic market.
Crucially, the only European monthly print title had also recently closed - but we knew that the demand from the trade for a publication that truly put the people at its heart was high.
Licensing.biz was built from the ground up with input from the business - you told us what you wanted to read, who you wanted to read about, when and how. Everything from how the site looks - both then and now - through to the time of our daily newsletters was decided with the industry in mind.
Over the past six and a bit years, the team has worked hard to produce up to the minute news, analysis, profiles, interviews and opinion. And not just our opinion - contributions were actively encouraged from the whole industry, and not just from managing directors and CEOs, but from all levels. We've carried pieces from industry trade bodies, start up animators, legal firms, royalty advisors, marketing specialists, licensees, licensors, retailers and more.
It may sound corny, but we know that what makes the licensing industry truly great is the people who work in it.
Which is the very reason we've launched the Licensing.biz People Awards.
The brands, characters and properties are well known - and are honoured at fantastic awards ceremonies elsewhere in the calendar.
We want the individuals and the teams who have nurtured and established these brands over the past 12 months to be recognised too. And not just those who happen to already have a high industry profile - the aim is to shine the spotlight on all and every sector of the business: from agents to licensors, retailers to licensees, design agencies to rising stars and unsung heroes.
