YouTube is ramping up its online offering with the introduction of a Breaking News section to its homepage and apps.

The new section features a collection of videos from various news outlets on current affairs from across the world.

Plus, if users are just after a funny cat video then they can dismiss the Breaking News bar all together.

It seems fitting that YouTube is now offering its millions of viewers news via a video platform, for example the company’s CEO, Susan Wojcicki, revealed in June that 1.5 billion people watched an hour of video on mobile alone.

Who knows how well received the new addition will be? But it certainly seems that anything is possible for the global video sharing service.

Currently, the feature is now live on iOS and Android, as well as desktop.
