Minions tops UK box office with fifth biggest opening of 2015

Minions has topped the UK box office with the fifth biggest opening of the year so far.

Screen reports that Universal’s Despicable Me spin-off grossed £11.6m in its first weekend on release, which also means Minions has recorded the biggest ever three-day opening for an animated film in the UK.

Despite falling from the number one spot, Jurassic World added £5.8m in its third weekend to bring its UK total to £48.9m.

This now means Jurassic World has passed Avengers: Age of Ultron to become the UK’s highest grossing film of the year so far.
