Whilst Despicable Me 2 crosses the £30 million mark

Monsters University remains No.1 at UK box office

Disney’s Monsters University has retained the top spot at the UK box office for a second week running, reports Screen.

The prequel saw off competition from the new release The World’s End to top the chart, addding £2.8m to take its total after two weeks to £8.63m.

The film came just ahead of Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright’s new release, which took £2.1m.

Elsewhere, Despicable Me 2 slipped to third but added £1.8m this weekend to bump the sequel’s total UK gross to £30.26m.

It makes Universal’s animated sequel only the third film to pass the £30m mark in the UK this year, alongside Les Miserables and Iron Man 3.
