Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie tops UK box office

Universal’s Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie has topped the UK box office in its first weekend on release.

The film, based on popular BBC sitcom Mrs Brown’s Boys, enjoyed a debut of £4.3m, reports Screen.

In Ireland, Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie became the biggest ever opening day for a local film, as well as becoming the biggest opening day for any film in 2014 so far.

In the grand pantheon of TV-to-movie projects, D’Movie’s debut beats Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa’s £2.2m opening weekend and has already outgrossed the entire £2.9m UK run of Keith Lemon: The Film.

Time will tell to see if Mrs Brown has the legs to equal The Inbetweeners Movie’s total UK run of £45.03m, which enjoyed a bigger debut weekend of £13.2m.

Mrs Brown faces comedy competition this weekend in the form of Warner Bros’ Tammy starring Melissa McCarthy.
