Mrs Brown’s Boys tops Christmas TV ratings

BBC One comedy Mrs Brown’s Boys was the most watched show on Christmas Day 2013.

Despite competition from the likes of EastEnders and the Doctor Who special, Brendan O’Carroll’s comedy came out on top with 9.4 million viewers and a 35.5 per cent share of audience in its slot.

Doctor Who was the second most popular show, attracting an average of 8.3 million viewers.

This episode, which saw Matt Smith regenerate into Peter Capaldi, marked the biggest peak of the day at 10.2 million viewers.

For the first time in over a decade, Coronation Street beat EastEnders, taking 8.3 million viewers and a 30.7 per cent share between 7.30pm and 8.30pm, despite being scheduled alongside Doctor Who.

EastEnders managed 7.8 million viewers, down 1.6 million viewers on the Christmas episode broadcast in 2012.
