Negotiations over rights to ‘Jose Mourinho’ brand delays his move to Man Utd

Jose Mourinho’s move to become manager of Manchester United is currently being stalled due to negotiations with his former club over the rights to the ‘Mourinho’ brand.

BBC reports that Chelsea still owns his name as a trademark and could demand a six-figure sum from United before his move to the club is concluded.

Chelsea registered ‘Jose Mourinho’ and his signature as a European trademark in 2005 to sell a range of Jose Mourinho’merchandise.

"If United had a brand of Mourinho clothing, it would be in breach of the trademark Chelsea currently own," sports lawyer Carol Couse told the BBC.
