DHX Media has licensed both its new and classic hit children’s series Teletubbies to the Italian broadcaster Rai.
The new deal will see Rai broadcast the new series – which is currently in productions and set to debut on CBeebies later this year – on its pre-school network, Rai Yo Yo.
The channel has also acquired the rights to seasons one to 14 of the classic Teletubbies show.
“This deal with Rai and recent sales in the US and France underscore the considerable appetite globally for Teletubbies,” said Josh Scherba, SVP distribution of DHX Media.
“That broadcasters are keen to snap up both the new and classic series highlights that this is a property with enduring appeal, poised to win a generation of fans.”
Teletubbies was first launched in March 1997 and soon became one of the most successful global children’s brands of all time, having reached over one billion children to date.
This year will see 60 brand new Teletubbies episodes launch to broadcasters across the globe, starring the now iconic Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po.
