Congo Tree House unveils Storybook Monsters and Petathletes.

New UK production firm launches animation brace

New animation start up Congo Tree House has developed a brace of projects, and is now seeking co-production investor partners.

First up, the firm has developed Storybook Monsters with a key emphasis on learning through reading with friends and family. The 12 ten-minute episodes are a mix of 3D animation and live action, and follow the storytelling adventures of a colourful furry monster family (The Reeds) and their phonics teaching pet, Catalogue.

Congo Tree House says that the series aims to aid social development, promote family values and develop literacy and phonic communication. Cultural introduction is also an important element, with Bhangra music productions promoting dance and physical activity.

Meanwhile, multicultural 2D animation Petathletes has been created to encourage five to eight year olds to engage in sports and improve wellbeing.

It follows the animal adventures of five feisty young animal superheroes with extraordinary sporting skills. Once human college students, they all suffered long-lasting sports injuries and agreed to be part of a secret experiment which used animal DNA to repair their injuries.

However, the experiment went wrong and, while their sports skills are super enhanced, the Petathletes have been left with part animal/part human characteristics.

"A great amount of love, care and hard work has gone into the creation of these wonderful, vibrant series," said Clayton Byfield, founder of Congo Tree House. "It’s also a massive risk for us when most are focusing on their established brands, however, we’ve seen an animation gap in these demographics, and we’ve had some amazing feedback from kids and professionals.

"Our search begins for the right partner to help refine and develop the projects for us to take them to the next level.

"We’re really excited about Storybook Monsters and Petathletes, and feel they have the global potential to turn into exciting and lasting children’s entertainment brands."
