New Universal Studios theme parks coming to Asia

The company which runs Universal Studios Japan has revealed plans to build new parks in Japan and Asia.

Variety reports that USJ Co Ltd is eyeing up sites in Okinawa in Indonesia, Mumbai in India and also in Taiwan.

USJ plans to settle on one or two sites and finish construction of the new parks by the start of the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

The company received a $250 million injection from Hong Kong-based investment firm PAG in December, with those funds going towards a new Harry Potter attraction.

Last year, Universal Studios Japan recorded more than 10 million visitors for the first time since the park opened in 2001.
