Nickelodeon has revealed the finalists for its first ever global SpongeBob SquarePants-themed short film competition.
The competition named SpongeBob squareShorts: Original Fan tributes, saw over 1,000 short films celebrating the positivity and optimism of the character submitted by fans from across the globe.
The top five finalists in two categories – under 18 years and 18 and over – were chosen by a panel of judges made up of Nickelodeon executives.
Videos were judged on originality and creativity, incorporation of SpongeBob’s attributes and overall appeal.
Fans are now being encouraged to view the finalists’ videos and vote for their favourites via the website – www.spongebobsquareshorts.com – or via Twitter, tweeting the unique hashtag for each film.

A winner from each category will be announced by August 9th and awarded $2,500 cash prize and a trip for four to a screening event at Universal Studios in Hollywood.
