Nickelodeon has revealed the winners of the first ever global SpongeBob SquarePants themed short film competition, SpongeBob SquareShorts: Original Fan Tributes.
The winners in two categories – under 18s and 18 and over – were chosen from more than 1,000 submissions from over 70 countries.
Finally Home, a submission from South African fan Nicole, took top spot in the over 18s category, following the tale of a SpongeBob SquarePants fan and her quest to find her dream home.
Meanwhile, cleaning up in the under 18s category is The Krabby commercial by David from the US. The short animation sees Mr Krabs assign SpongeBob and Patrick the task of making a commercial to advertise the Krabby Patty. Watch the short film here.
Picked from a panel of judges comprised of Nickelodeon executives from across the globe, the winners will be awarded a $2,500 cash prize, as well as a trip for four people to a screening event held at the SpongeBob Fan Shellabration at Universal Studios in Hollywood.
The short film competition invited fans of the Nickelodeon animation to create and submit their own short videos inspired by the show and highlighting the character’s endearing attributes: humour, happiness and positivity.
