Nickelodeon transformed the London skate park Ladbroke Grove into a specially created Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles lair over the weekend to help celebrate the launch of the new animated series.
Celebrity guests including the likes of Danny Dyer, Michelle Heaton, Danielle Lloyd and Imogen Thomas visited the event where they witnessed the birth of a new skateboard trick called The Mikey in honour of Michelangelo.
The event was curated in support of the launch of Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a new series that hits Nicktoons and Channel 5 from September 22nd this year. It will be followed by a toy range hitting shelves on October 5th.
14 year old skateboarder and YouTube sensation, Schaeffer Mclean unveiled the immersive Turtle Lair set upon a New York backdrop, along with the new flip move in the Bay Sixty6 Death Defying Skate Bowl.
The new trick, The Mikey, has even been endorsed by the official body, Skateboard England.
James Hope Gill, CEO of the governing body, said: “We are thrilled to be partnering with Nickelodeon for the launch of Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
“We have been working with Schaeffer on The Mikey for some time now – the move is a take on and adopts certain characteristics from skateboarding hero Michelangelo who has a wild, colourful and imaginative personality.”
Celebrities entered the event by a sewer door before navigating their way through the lair via a series of activities that paid homage to each turtle, such as Raphael’s Ninja Arna, Leonardo’s Light Speed Challenge, Donatello’s Music Coding and Mikey’s Mega Half Shell.
Marianne James, vice president, Viacom Nickelodeon Commercial partnerships, Consumer Products and Experiences, UK and Ireland, added: “Giving celebrities and influencer families the chance to power up like the Turtles as well the opportunity to play with the toys being distributed by our partner Flair in April’s Play and Display area is the perfect start for the UK launch of Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
“We have robust marketing plans being implemented across retailers and the media landscape in the run-up to toy range launch on October 5th, making them the must have toys in the run-up to Christmas and beyond.”
The new toy line will consist of 25 new turtle toys including Deluxe turtle Figures, Giant Shell Hog Cycles, Epic Sewer Play-sets and an array of costumes.
